Northeast
The Northeast Zone, launched in January 2010, serves students who live and go to school within the boundaries of the Maplewood and Stratford clusters. Martha O'Bryan Center, its Coordinating Agency, subcontracted with six existing providers to deliver quality programming to 250 additional students for whom available programs were not accessible, due to cost or transportation issues. These efforts more than doubled the number of these students in structured afterschool programs in the Northeast zone.

Digital Animation at NAZA NE site
Many students in the NE Zone have enjoyed creating digital animation videos with the Digital Learning Labs from the Adventure Science Center. The labs bring computers and technology to the sites, and students participate in great hands-on learning experiences!

Ready for a Great Spring Semester
Over 250 students participated in the 8 programs in the NE Zone this fall! In December each site hosted a showcase highlighting what the students had learned throughout the semester. THRIVE provides out-of-school time programming, including academic tutoring, social and life planning skills, as well as transitional coaching between middle school and high school. Through numerous community partnerships THRIVE provides many exciting activities for students throughout the year.

Who can enroll? Bailey STEM Magnet Middle School Students in the East Nashville community
1st and 10 is a Backfield in Motion program that serves boys in 5th-8th grades. After school, participants alternate between tutoring and mentoring in the classroom. Our licensed teachers and certified reading specialists place special emphasis on: reading comprehension, math, critical thinking and homework completion. Following successful participation of the academic period, our student-athletes engage in different team sports (vary by season).

Sports, dance, teambuilding, games and leadership are just some of the activities that you’ll enjoy at YMCA SMARTKids. Mix in some homework help and tutoring, plus multiple field trips during the year, and you’ll find that afterschool feels new with SMARTKids on Russell St. Staff will pick up students at school and will also offer drop off bus service for students who live within our bus route zone.

Students will engage in homework help, interactive activities that build life skills (conflict resolution, goal setting, leadership, and service learning), and participate in several forms of artistic expression (creative writing, recording studio, fashion design, visual arts, etc…). Youth will also have the opportunity to participate in cooking demonstrations to foster healthy eating choices.

The RAP program offers students a unique opportunity to explore new skills, participate in fun and interesting activities, and receive instruction in reading and math. Through partnerships with Nashville Children's Theater, and Community Food Advocates among other agencies, our students will learn important life skills that they may carry with them into adulthood. All students will have the opportunity to participate in activities like acting, cooking, robotics, art, and STEP, while receiving daily academic instruction and homework help.
