• Many students in the NE Zone have enjoyed creating digital animation videos with the Digital Learning Labs from the Adventure Science Center. The labs bring computers and technology to the sites, and students participate in great hands-on learning experiences!

  • Over 250 students participated in the 8 programs in the NE Zone this fall! In December each site hosted a showcase highlighting what the students had learned throughout the semester. The events included dance and STEP performances, singing, plays written and performed by the students, fashion shows, a STEM Bowl, visual art, and pottery...

  • In November, students across the Zone participated in Health & Fitness activities. These activities included physical fitness (zumba, STEP, basketball, fitness "boot camps") and health activities (healthy cooking classes, nutrition classes, healthy snacks and meals). Through these activities students learned how to incorporate healthy choices and exercise into their daily routines.


  • Recently, Mayor Dean visited NAZA afterschool programs at the Litton Gym to celebrate the addition of hot meals for the students at several NAZA sites.  This marks the first time Nashville students have had access to hot meals at afterschool programs through the federal Afterschool Meals Program.  Second Harvest is providing the meals to Backfield in Motion, a new anchor partner this year, at Litton Gym, and to Metro Parks’ Coleman Community Center program...

  • Students across the NE Zone are celebrating art this month by participating in various art activities. From pottery and print-making to hip hop dance and graffiti art, all of the sites are joining in the city-wide ARTOBER celebration of the arts.   • We are excited to add Backfield in Motion as a Zone Anchor Partner this year. Backfield in Motion combines academics, character education, and sports in their program for young men and has been serving Nashville youth for several years. As a NAZA partner, they will be serving young men from Isaac Litton Middle School and Gra-Mar Middle School this year.   • Entering its third full school year, the NE Zone is anticipating a great year ahead for middle school students in the Stratford/Maplewood clusters. With 6 great agencies as Zone Anchor Partners and strong support from MNPS principals and staff, the Zone is ready for another exciting year. Student enrollment begins August 8.
